Seniors in the Longmont area have hundreds of activities available to them that can put their creative talents to work, fill their days with fun and even offer traveling opportunities. From bowling to billards to health classes, the city of Longmont's Division of Senior Services offers ahost of activites at the Senior Center. Located at 910 Longs Peak Ave. in Longmont, the Senior Center requires pre-registration for all activities and encourages participants to call the center at 303-651-8411 to sign up. SeniorNet Computer Learning Exciting and successful, this project is co-sponsored by Front Range Community College, the city of Longmont Senior Services, SeniorNet Inc. and a group of senior volunteers who coordinate the local project. Classes are at Front Range Community College's state of the art computer lab. City Senior Services manages all registrations and finances, while SeniorNet provides the software, training manuals and leadership support. The volunteer coordinating team does all the teaching and lab support. This group of volunteers also provides assistance in senior assisted and independent living facilities and is helping with Medicare Part D sign up. Classes cover genealogy, digital camera, digital music, Photoshop, keyboarding, spreadsheets, TurboTax, word processing, Internet, e-mail, Web page development, basic fundamentals and two levels of general introduction to computers. Wellness Programs Motivation Mondays — free wellness-oriented classes each Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Topics include osteoporosis, preparing for surgery, balancing your body, relationships and sexuality, laughter and home safety.
Wellness Clinic —A nurse is available the first and third Mondays of each month to visit with older adults about their health. Blood pressure, weight, oximetry and blood sugar are checked, and other health concerns are discussed. This service is available on a walk-in basis free of charge. |
